I’ve decided to start my
blogging journey by posting about what I'm struggling with right now, finding
the balance between being a twenty-something college student and a new parent.
And the struggle is real
y’all.
Being a stay-at-home
parent that also attends college requires a lot of patience and time
management. I, unfortunately, have very little of either. I find myself a
little bit more irritable when deadlines are closing in and naptime is in the
distant future. My advice for getting through these rough times is to invest in
your interests to save your sanity.
Doing something that
makes you feel calm when everything seems to be aggravating you can turn your
whole day around. For me, my “day saver” is playing video games. Right now I’m
into The Sims 3 and Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition for PC. Whenever I feel overwhelmed
by my son or college, I take a break and play these for an hour or so.
Investing in whatever
makes you happy as much as you can whenever you can will help you keep most tensions
from college and parenting to a minimum. Thinking clearly can help with
compartmentalizing the problems you encounter in college and in life, making
your emotions less likely to bleed into situations where they don’t belong.
Something I've learned about
myself lately is that being patient is not a trait that I was born with, but I
can manage situations so much easier when I am relaxed and thinking clearly.
Always remember to make time for yourself to relax or you will burn out. Fast.
Let me know in the
comments if you have any questions or suggestions for making my posts any
better!
Peace, love, and green
tea <3
